1842  A quintal of fish . . . is worth 12 s.6 d. in hard cash, or 14 s 6 d. store pay, the latter being the usual mode of payment. Store pay in Canada signifies what the storekeeper values his goods at in settling with the working classes, and of course varies with the demand and supply.
1898  Wheat at that time [1812] could only be sold for one-half cash and one-half store-pay.
1905  The store-keeper bought the settlers' produce but would give them only trade in return, or what was known as "store pay."
